Métis District 11
Métis District 11 is a non-profit society and is supported by the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. Métis District 11 represents the Elders, Youth, community and connection to culture. We are committed to the past and future generations; instilling in them pride for their heritage and culture.
Metis District 11 is a geographic area that extends north, west and south around the City of Edmonton. It pays tribute to the many Metis families that settled along the Sturgeon River and around Big Lake. Distinct Métis communities developed along fur trade routes that made the Métis Nation Homeland. Metis District 11 was part of the trade route with other Metis communities including Beaver Hills area, Fort Saskatchewan and Camrose.
Truth & Reconciliation
The Truth and Reconciliation initiative is a vital effort to confront and address the painful legacy of two residential schools in the area: Youville Residential School and Edmonton (Poundmaker) Residential School. These institutions, like many others across Canada, were part of a system that sought to assimilate Indigenous children, often through harsh and inhumane practices. The initiative aims to educate the community about the injustices endured by Indigenous peoples, honor the survivors and their families, and foster healing through dialogue and understanding. By acknowledging this dark chapter in history and working toward reconciliation, we seek to build a future grounded in respect, equality, and truth.

Land Acknowledgement
The Métis Local acknowledges that our community resides in Treaty 6 Territory. The Métis Local honours the First Nations, our relatives, and their relationship to the land since time immemorial. We acknowledge the Inuit and their relationship to the north, their homeland. The Métis Local affirms our Indigenous title to our homeland, and we thank the creator for our connection to this land.
